A Strategic Focus on Technological Innovation:
Analysis of Intel Inc.'s Distinctive Competencies

This paper aims to discuss Intel’s distinctive-competency and focus on the technical-innovation. Intel effectively communicates its market in the semiconductor business through strategic long-term research and development and focused x86 platform and nanometer technology. Following a case study, the report identifies Intel’s strengths in microprocessors, artificial intelligence and machine learning, 5G, and quantum computing. The innovation readiness level is calculated by product change rates in conjunction with the estimated revenues. Others include competition from Nvidia, AMD, and the environment is relatively volatile. Strategic implications analysis indicates that Intel should enhance its effort on research and development to address disruptive innovation.
